Sarah Zecchin

Sarah Zecchin is Research Fellow in Agricultural Microbiology at the Department of Food, Environmental and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Milan.

Her research interests include:

  • microbial biogeochemical cycles in environments contaminated by arsenic, heavy metals, and petroleum-derived hydrocarbons
  • ecology of the microbiota in relation to the cultivation of rice roots and related agronomic practices
  • microbial extracellular electron transfer in bioelectrochemical systems and in natural environments.

She was PostDoc at the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics, University of Amsterdam, and at the Department of Biology, University of Konstanz.

She teaches Soil Microbiology at the University of Milan and she was awarded the FEMS-Jensen Award by the Federation of European Microbiological Societies in 2019.
